Attorney Charles F. Basil is a lifelong resident of Connecticut, and has been continuously licensed in Connecticut since 1985. He was awarded a B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of Connecticut , and a Juris Doctor degree, summa cum laude, from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington DC , where he was an editor of the Law Review, and won several awards.
Known as "Charlie" to his friends and relatives, he went on to a career as a partner and managing attorney of the litigation and estate planning departments of a very successful mid-sized regional law practice. He has extensive litigation experience in areas such as commercial transactions, real estate, personal injury, and has prosecuted or defended over 3,500 cases to conclusion by court trial, jury trial, summary judgment or settlement. He has written hundreds of wills, living trusts, powers of attorney, living wills, and other estate planning documents for Connecticut clients.
In 2008, Attorney Basil left his partners and started the website now known as CTWillAttorney.com, which provides customized, attorney-created, estate planning documents to Connecticut people, online, at a fraction of the cost of traditional preparation. It is the first online estate planning law website in Connecticut.
Since 2010, Attorney Basil has been appointed (and re-appointed) an Attorney Trial Referee and also an Attorney Fact Finder by the Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. He was Appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Sub-Prime Lending in order to propose solutions to the foreclosure crisis, and a member of the Judicial Department's Pilot Program Advisory Board for Electronic Filing of court documents.
Attorney Basil was awarded the American Jurisprudence Awards for Excellence in the area of Contract Law, Property Law, Wills, Trusts, and Future Interests. He was rated 10 out of 10 and “Superb” (highest tier) by Avvo, a peer reviewed attorney rating site, where he had been a frequent contributor and author of dozens of Legal Guides; and a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, and has been a Section Member in Technology Law, Business Law, Litigation, and Estate Planning.
He resides in West Hartford, with his wife, Dr. Elzbieta W. Basil, an outstanding local dentist and UConn Dental School faculty member; and he is the proud father of one daughter who recently graduated from MIT. His hobbies include photography, painting, sports, travel, cooking, and spending time at the Connecticut shoreline.
